First Post For The New Site & My First Half Marathon

Beat the Blerch 2016 MadMadViking.com is now live and there is some part of me that says that I should be starting this blog with and “about me” or “my journey” type post to get everyone up to speed on life, my adventures and how I got where I am.

Who has time for that though?

Signing Up For My First Half Marathon

This is a very crazy, almost spur of the moment decision for me to knock out a half marathon in between the Spartan races that will finish out my Trifecta for the year.  I know…  ONE trifecta?  “ooohhh – aaaaa”

Some of us are old, slow and don’t have the time to travel the country pounding out races every weekend and racking up 6-7 trifectas in a year. But I digress.

Seeing as the October Beast is basically a half marathon, I figured a good test of if I’m ready to put that kind of mileage out, would be to do a half marathon.  I looked for one that was in the right time frame and was preferably not just road running.  I hate that.  Nothing fit though.

The closest was the Mud & Chocolate Half-Marathon but I already had something going on that weekend. After I while I gave up and just got back to getting ready for Red Deer.  Then today the answer fell in my lap. Beat The Blerch.

The Blerch Saves The Day

Not known for saving the day, The Blerch (meet the Blerch) or more specifically the run named in its honor fit the bill perfectly for a half-marathon to run in late September.

So I signed up. Actually I checked my calendar three times, then signed up as I am fantastic at getting excited for events only to find out they are all on the same day. Now I have this to look forward to.  Or is that dread.  It is hard to tell sometimes.

I do know that knowing that I will have to run 14 miles gets me out of my chair when I REALLY don’t want to some days. Everyone seems to have different motivations and for me, failing at a run, even just a flat run in the woods is a big motivator.

Now That I’m Committed To The Run…

Now that I’m committed to the run I’ll have to focus a bit more on a training plan, then execute it.  Are you signed up for Beat The Blerch?  Say hi and let me know you are running it too!  It is always way more fun going to events where you know people.

This all said, the first official post for MadMadViking.com is done.  Be sure to catch up with me here, as well in Instagram or on Snapchat under the classic and charming name, MadMadViking.
